*Flu Season is Here!*

    It is recommended that everyone, 6 months and older get a flu vaccination. The 2010-2011 vaccine protects against three different viruses including H1N1.

    Contact your health care provider or Brown County Public Health for what is recommended for you. If you are uninsured of have to pay out of pocket for vaccinations, you may be eligible for low cost vaccinations.

    Parents will be notified when school based clinics are scheduled.


    Influenza Symptoms and Preventions

  • To Prevent Influenza - cover your cough, stay home when sick, wash your hands, get vaccinated
  • Influenza Sympoms - fever, sore throat, fatigue, muscle aches, stuffy nose, cough, diarrhea & vomiting (in some cases)

Programs and services are available to all persons living in Brown County

SERVICES INCLUDE:


STAFF: 46 full and part time staff including 14 public health nurses (RN, BSN), 3 intermittent part time public health nurses, 2 registered nurses (RN), 5 support staff, 12 home health aides & 9 homemakers

*No one is refused services for inability to pay. Sliding fees scales, based on family size and income, are available for all services that have fees (Home Health Care, Immunizations, Family Planning, Pregnancy Testing).

*Funding for Public Health programs comes from grants, fees for services, contracts, and county tax dollars.

CITIZEN ADVISORY COMMITTEE:

Citizens representing all areas of the county, who are appointed by the County Board of Commissioners, to advise, review, and recommend to the County Board, all programs, policies, budgets and staffing for the Public Health Department. Members of the Advisory Committee represent the citizens of their community or population groups, and serve as liaisons between Public Health and the communities.

Advisory Committee Members are key people in each community for citizens to contact and give feedback and suggestions for Public Health programs and services. All residents of the county are eligible to serve on the Advisory Committee, that meets regularly on the first Wednesday of every other month, from 12:30 - 2:00 PM, at the Public Health Offices in New Ulm. If interested, contact your community representative or your County Commissioner.
