Brown County Jail
Cell Rates Information: The Brown County Jail and Law Enforcement Center was completed in August of 1994, replacing an 11 bed facility built in 1904. The facility houses 56 (male and female) inmates. Inmates are supervised by remote surveillance and a roving correctional officer. The L.E.C. is 44,056 sq. ft. and includes Administration offices for the Sheriff's Office and New Ulm Police Department. The task of supervising the operation of the Jail is the responsibility of Jail Administrator Mike Mathiowetz. The Jail Administrator is assisted in this endeavor by the Jail Programmer and 16 fulltime corrections staff. Correctional Officers are primarily responsible for the safety and security of the jail facility, the inmates and the officers. While persons are incarcerated in jail their well being is of the utmost importance. They are granted certain privileges but these may be revoked for disciplinary or security reasons. Some of the privileges are access to a telephone which places collect calls (local calls are even collect), but cannot receive telephone calls, access to television, fully stocked library, card and board games. The Jail also has a well stocked commissary from which inmates may purchase non-perishable food and snacks, writing material, stamped envelopes, headset radios, personal hygiene products, etc. Inmates are always granted visits from their attorney and may receive non-contact visits from family and friends subject to rules. The Jail has its own fully equipped kitchen and half court indoor basketball court/recreation area. Graphic control panels in Jail Control ensure easy operation doors, lights, telephones, showers, intercoms, etc. The electronic security systems are electro-mechanical and a microprocessor based system. The system uses 21 monochrome cameras routed through a video switching system to allow viewing on 2 monitors and 24 hour recording, of any camera. The Brown Count Jail boards inmates from other counties using a sliding scale rate. 1 inmate = $54.00 per day; 2 – 4 inmates = $52.00 per inmate per day; 5 or more inmates = $50.00 per inmate per day. The Brown County Jail will also transport the inmate(s) to the Brown County Jail one time from the originating county. Pictures of Incarceration Center |
