POOR ROAD CONDITION ADVISORY:

The van will not make a trip if road conditions in the opinion of the driver do not allow absolutely safe travel. In case the road conditions are such that a trip cannot safely be made, transportation for that day will be cancelled.
The Brown County Veterans Service Office will not reschedule your appointment if a trip is canceled.

The van is not equipped nor are the drivers trained or qualified to handle medical emergencies. We will not transport anyone with life threatening emergencies. You should call the local ambulance service when dealing with emergencies.

Some veterans require assistance in traveling, and we are happy to provide transportation for family members or attendants of veterans who need assistance. Those arrangements can be made by calling our office. Veterans will have priority over family members if the van is full.

Veterans who are eligible for travel pay MUST collect travel pay at the VA Medical
Center, and MUST turn it in to the van driver. Veterans who do not turn in the travel pay given to them by the VA Medical Center will not be allowed to ride the van.

On the lawn of the Brown County Courthouse proudly rests a memorial which pays a lasting tribute to all Brown County veterans...past, present and future.

The Brown County Veterans' memorial was completed and became a reality after two long years of planning and construction.  It was dedicated on Veterans' Day (November 11), 1999

The cost of the paver is $175.

Folded burial flagThe Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) provides a U.S. flag at no cost, to drape the casket or accompany the urn of a deceased veteran who served honorably in the U. S. armed forces. It is furnished to honor the memory of a veteran’s military service to his or her country.

Generally, the flag is given to the next-of-kin as a keepsake after its use during the funeral service. When there is no next-of-kin, VA will furnish the flag to a friend making a request for it. For Soldiers Rest cemeteries with an Avenue of Flags, families or friends of veterans buried in these cemeteries may donate the burial flags of their loved ones to be flown on patriotic holidays.
