The Drainage Authority has approved drainage system guidelines to assist landowners with understanding drainage law and requirements and/or suggested practices within Brown County. Contacts are listed on the front page of the document as well.
Repairs and inspection of the ditches are handled by the County Highway Department. To contact them regarding your drainage issues call 507-233-5700.
Assessments, maintenance levies and records of ditch proceedings are handled by the Auditor-Treasurer’s Office. Drainage issues are outlined in M.S. Statute 103E011-103
The Drainage Authority is working to establish a systematic redetermination of benefits and damages for all of the county drainage systems under their jurisdiction, including surface ditches and subsurface tile systems. These redeterminations are long overdue and will take years to complete the process. Landowners can find additional information in the Redetermination of Benefits and Damages for Drainage System overview.
