Recorder Department

Covid-19 Notice

Given the recent recommendations from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and Minnesota Department of Health regarding public gatherings and social distancing, the County Recorder’s office is asking that all recordings be electronically filed, delivered by mail, or placed in the drop box at the Law Enforcement Center (15 S Washington St, New Ulm).

CERTIFIED COPIES OF VITAL RECORDS:  Please make requests for certified copies through the mail or email.  Applications and instructions are under the Department of Recorder.

MARRIAGE LICENSE APPLICATIONS:  Please call the Recorder’s office for instructions on how to complete this process.

PASSPORTS: Unless you have a life-or-death emergency, please wait until we resume normal operations to apply for or renew your passport.  If you apply or renew now, you will experience significant delays of several months to receive your U.S. passport and the return of your citizenship evidence documents (such as birth certificates or naturalization certificates).

If time is of the essence and you feel you need to appear in person, please call the office for an appointment.
