The Brown County Sheriff’s Office began a Commercial Truck Enforcement Unit in 2003. The deputies assigned to this unit are trained and certified. The training consists of classroom and hands-on training. The purpose of the Commercial Vehicle Unit is to: enforce state and federal traffic laws, remove potentially unsafe and imminently hazardous vehicles from the highway, obtain information regarding carriers, drivers, vehicles, and cargo relative to safety and compliance with state and federal laws. Overweight vehicles are a leading cause of the deterioration of our roadways.
By providing these periodic inspections of truck and commercial vehicles the Brown County Sheriff’s Office is taking the necessary steps to improve the roads in Brown County, ensure the safety of our citizens.
